Privacy statement

Who are we?
watzoujedoen is run by watzoujedoen. We are responsible for the processing of personal data on this website. Do you have questions about your privacy? Email us at test@example.com.
In this privacy statement we explain which data we process, why, how long we keep it and what rights you have. We process as little data as possible: you can vote anonymously and without an account.
Voting
Each week we publish one statement. Anyone can vote on it anonymously with agree or disagree. You can also still vote on earlier statements in the archive; we show these late votes separately.
When you vote, we store the following:
- Your choice (agree or disagree).
- A random voter ID. This is a random code that we keep in a cookie (
voter_token) on your device. The code is not linked to your name, email address or any other information about you. It lets you see your own vote and change it. Our database does not store the code itself, only a one-way derivative (hash) of it per statement, so your votes on different statements cannot be linked to each other. - A non-reversible derivative of your IP address. We do not store your IP address itself, but a one-way hash (HMAC) created with a secret key. Your IP address cannot be recovered from it. We only use this hash to limit the number of votes per network per statement (at most 5). The hash is automatically deleted after 7 days.
- A non-reversible derivative of your device. This is a one-way hash (HMAC) of your IP address together with the details your browser always sends (browser type and language preference). We only use this hash to limit the number of votes per device per statement (at most 2), so that someone cannot keep voting again by deleting the cookie. This hash is also automatically deleted after 7 days.
You can change or withdraw your vote up to 7 days after casting it. For votes on the statement of the week, this is also only possible while that week is still running. We only publish aggregate results as percentages, never individual votes.
Bot protection
When you vote and on the suggestion form, we use Cloudflare Turnstile. This service checks whether you are a human or an automated program. To do so, Cloudflare processes technical data, such as your IP address and characteristics of your browser, and may use its own strictly necessary cookies or local storage.
Cloudflare is a US company. As a result, data may be processed outside the European Economic Area. This takes place on the basis of the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and/or the standard contractual clauses of the European Commission. You can find more information in Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Suggesting a statement
You can suggest a statement yourself. You can optionally provide your name, your email address and a category.
- Name: if we use your statement, we show your name publicly as its author ("suggested by").
- Email address: we only use this to send you one email when your statement goes live. After that, we delete your email address.
- Rejection: if we reject your suggestion, we delete your name and email address immediately.
- Spam: we may delete suggestions that are spam entirely.
Server logs and fonts
To keep the website secure, our server logs may contain IP addresses. We keep these logs for a short period, at most a few weeks, and only use them for security and to fix problems.
The fonts on this website are hosted on our own server. Your browser therefore does not connect to external parties to load them.
Cookies
We only use functional cookies that are needed for the website to work. We do not use cookies for analytics, tracking or advertising. Read more in our cookie statement.
Legal bases
We process your data on the basis of:
- Legitimate interest: running the poll, preventing abuse (such as multiple voting and bots) and securing the website.
- Consent: for your name and email address when you submit a suggestion. These fields are optional. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us at test@example.com.
Sharing with others
We do not sell your data. We only share data with service providers we need to run the website, such as our hosting provider and Cloudflare, or when the law requires us to.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, erase and restrict the processing of your data. You can also object to the processing and you have the right to data portability. Send your request to test@example.com. We will respond within one month.
Because votes are anonymous, we usually cannot link a vote to a person. Do you want to withdraw your vote? You can do so yourself on the website, within the period in which your vote can still be changed.
Are you not satisfied with how we handle your data? You can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
